Migration & Tea Plantations

🍃 The Rise of Plantation Culture

In the late 18th century, the Pozhuthana Edam royal family leased over 800 hectares of forest land to British companies, paving the way for large-scale tea plantations now known as Harrison Malayalam Limited.

Traditional Agrarian Culture

The expansion of plantations brought agrarian communities, primarily from the Pulaya and Paniya tribes. Governance & Growth

🛣️ Development Through Collective Action

Carved out from Vythiri in 1972, Pozhuthana's development relied heavily on collective community action.

Key arterial routes such as Anoth-Pappalamoola, Anoor-Chunda, and Olarana-Perummukku roads were built through voluntary labor and land donations by local residents.
